Curriculum you can grow and eat

Communication between classroom teachers and kitchen garden teachers is vital to linking the curriculum.

Often is the case that a genuine need in the garden or kitchen will also fulfil a curriculum need and give the students a real-life challenge to grab their attention and engage their curiosity.

Moisture holding capacity of soil is important for successful gardens. One Year 6 class ran an experiment devised to test the water holding capacity of various growing mediums found in the garden.

When the outcome was shared with the other Year 6 class several students were inspired to create their own experiment and so Charlotte, Telia and Issy decided to test several seed-raising mixes to see which was best.
